Spring has sprung! Beautiful signs of one of my favorite seasons are everywhere! We took a little roadtrip this weekend to check out the progress of this year's bluebonnet season and they're popping up everywhere! Blooming alongside our beloved state flower, are a multitude of colorful Indian paintbrushes. The season has just begun but in many places the grass is already overtaking the early blooms. Get out to see them while you can! As always be careful not to stomp on them. Sadly we saw too many places where people had not only plopped themselves, and their children and pets in the middle of them, but also many places where people had just driven right over them. Be careful where you step and choose that photo snapping place carefully.
One of the best places to see Texas wildflowers this past weekend was along Park Road #4 which leads from Burnet or Marble Falls to Longhorn Caverns State Park and Inks Lake State Park.
An added note -- the vista from the rest stop. overlooking the valley is breathtaking and a great place for a picnic! (Click on photos below to enlarge) If you get a chance visit the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. Both the main gardens and the Japanese Gardens are bursting with color and life! If you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of their almost-resident heron. We could ourselves fortunate every time we do!
The cherry blossoms are in early bloom. however last week's horrendous hail storm has taken its toll on them. You'll also find Texas mountain laurel, shooting stars, azaleas, tulips, daffodils and so much more! (click on photos below to enlarge) |
